Big Sunglasses
From LoveToKnow Sunglasses
The Benefits of Big Sunglasses
The most obvious benefit of big sunglasses is that they make you look hot! The other, and more important benefit is the UV protection they offer, assuming you get the 100 percent--something you should always look for in sunglasses, no matter their size.
Big sunglasses cover more of the area around the eye than any other type of lenses, aside from some sport sunglasses and wraparound styles. That means less damage to your eyes, and fewer wrinkles when you're older!
Who Wears Them?
Just about all of Hollywood's leading ladies wear some version of big sunglasses! Celebrity fashion understands the glamour of big lenses on petite or angular faces. Faces of today and yesterday who have adored big sunglasses include:
- Jackie Kennedy Onassis
- Nicole Richie
- Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
- Jessica Simpson
- Paris Hilton
- Audrey Hepburn
Who Can Wear Them?
Just about any face shape can make them work, though those with round faces may want to opt for a smaller, more angular style than the traditionally round lens style of big sunglasses. Oval, square and heart-shaped faces will look chic in oversized black lenses and frames.
For a bit of fun, try other colors like blue frames with navy blue lenses. White frames with black lenses look amazing against a summer tan and offer a new twist on a popular style. If you hit the jackpot at a boutique and find them for, say, $10 per pair, stock up! Buy all the colors--something for each outfit. They're the sunglasses of the season, still going strong after being a top seller in 2005, so you can't go wrong.
Who Makes Them?
You can find big sunglasses almost anywhere. Some of the hottest ones can be picked up at small boutiques in the mall or in stores like Target. If you're a designer addict, you're in luck. Since they're the hottest sunglasses of the season, you'll be sure to have no trouble finding large lenses from Chanel, Versace, Dior or just about any other big name in fashion. Here are a few designer styles, as well as styles for us "average folk":
- AnySunglasses.com offers this style, which is pretty traditional as far as oversized sunglasses go. You can buy them in four frame/lenses combinations.
- HiSunglasses.com offers a variety of brands in different styles of oversized sunglasses.
- Remember the funky punch of color we mentioned above? Get it here with pink frames and smoke-colored lenses. They're cheap ($24.99!) so you won't be out much cash if you decide you don't want to wear these every day, but only when they match your outfit perfectly.
- Here's another fun color, lavender: Acrylic Frame Glasses
- Just for fun, here's a style that looks too big on most girls and isn't too popular: Burgundy Retro Oversize Plastic Curve Frame
Big Sunglasses with Designer Labels
- Dior is notorious for huge lenses that dwarf quite a few others!
- These Fendis are a bit on the large side. Also, they're angular, so if you're a girl with a round face and you want to wear big sunglasses, these might be your ideal pair.
- Here's a pair from Gucci in purple. This pair has a gradient tint so it's easier to read maps and then look back up again at the road without eyestrain.
