Celebrity Sunglasses
From LoveToKnow Sunglasses
Celebrity sunglasses sometimes seem to get more press than the people who wear them. From the Olsen twins to Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton, big shades are big news. When the trends in eyewear change, the first indicator is generally the change in style on a celebrity face.
Celebrity Sunglasses and Hollywood
We often see stars and starlets on the Hollywood red carpet and movie premieres donning new and never-before-seen eyewear and other wardrobe choices. However, that is not the ideal place to catch a celebrity wearing hot new or vintage sunglasses.
The best times to find movie stars and musicians in a pair of sunglasses are when they are on their daily routines. Walking the dog down the street, meeting with friends at the local coffee shops or strolling a new baby at a Los Angeles park are all activities that reveal the stars in their comfortable, everyday styles.
Off the Beaten Path
Some of the best and most loved celebrity sunglasses throughout the years have been unusual or quirky. Take the following artists and celebrities for example:
- Elton John: The flashy Sir Elton John is known for his flamboyant shades. Frequently glittery and in shades of pink, purple, or silver, Elton's sunglasses cannot be ignored.
- Bootsy Collins: Bootsy Collins is a pioneer of funk music and funky style. Frequently seen wearing mirrored shades in outlandish shapes, Bootsy has a style all his own.
- George Clinton: The Prime Minister of Funk, George Clinton sometimes wears more than one pair of sunglasses at a time. He also favors star-shaped, glittery shades.
- The late, great Kurt Cobain often wore wild white frames and children’s sunglasses.
Say It With Style
From the most elegant to the most outrageous, Hollywood stars, musicians and artists around the world have often used sunglasses and other accessories to stand out or look the part. From Coco Chanel to Elizabeth Hurley to John Lennon and the Blues Brothers, it is easy to see that celebrity sunglasses play a role in shaping the look and our opinions of stars throughout the entertainment eras.
Beloved Brands
Some designer sunglasses lend themselves to unforgettable looks. Generally this look is associated with large frames, bright colors or a vintage feel. Lately, some of Hollywood’s stars have been noted to favor a few of the following designer sunglass makers:
- Gucci – favored for big, thick frames as well as other models of colossal rimless sunglasses
- Chanel – for a classic look that can be attained in the big and chunky look or in frames that match the size of any face
- Dolce and Gabana – for avant garde looks that always stand out regardless of the season or year
- Louis Vuitton – a great old stand-by for a classic look with a touch of understated flair
- Christian Dior – high-fashion frames that always deliver an unforgettable and edgy look
Big is Big
It seems no matter what designers do to try to pull away from gigantic, chunky frames, celebrities will have none of it. Going strong since early 2000, the big sunglasses craze does not seem to have an end in sight. From frames that are visibly just a little too large for the face to those that are wildly oversized, large-and-in-charge sunglasses frames have made their way into 2007 with ease. Aside from just being large, today’s most popular sunglasses styles are often lighter colored frames and always designer. The newest huge trend is white framed glasses and all the haute couture designers are on board.
Ironically, it is often a case of, "the smaller the star, the bigger the shades." You can see big sunglasses on the following tiny stars:
- Paris Hilton
- Nicole Richie
- Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen
- Jessica Simpson
- Britney Spears
- Lindsay Lohan
- Sienna Miller
- Katie Holmes
- Victoria Beckham
What You Can Expect for 2007
Large and heavy framed glasses are still a large part of the eyewear scene, but other celebrity sunglasses choices for this year are classically styled black frames with lenses tinted in dark (but not black) colors such as maroon, navy and dark silver. In addition to these more classic looks, you can expect a fairly sizeable comeback from wire framed sunglasses as they have already started to make their way onto the faces of supermodels and other celebrities in the fashion world.
