Gothic Contact Lens
From LoveToKnow Sunglasses
If you want to try a gothic contact lens, you'll still need a prescription. However, you can get lenses with or without vision correction, so no matter what your needs, you can get the look of the vampire, demon, or other creepy character you'd like. Wear them with a costume or without, but just be sure to care for them properly to avoid eye infections.
About the Gothic Contact Lens
A gothic lens can be red, black, white, in the shape of a regular lens or a sclera lens that covers the white of the eye. There is no distinct "gothic contact lens" so keep your options open while you look so that you don't miss out on what you want due to labeling. You can take your look from mildy spooky with some types of lenses, to downright scary with others. If you're a rigid gas-permeable contact lens wearer now, be aware that most special effect contact lenses are typically soft lenses, with the exception of mirrored contact lenses.
You don't just have to choose solid-colored lenses, either. If you'd prefer to have a black and white spiral style, go for it. Feel hypnotic when you wear them! There are plenty of patterns out there you could still consider "goth" if you'd prefer those over solid colors.
Buy Yours
No matter where you buy your contact lenses, or even whether you need vision correction, you will still need a prescription from your eye care professional. You may wish to talk to them about the types of lenses you hope to acquire and for how you intend to wear them. They may be able to point you in the right direction when it comes to the brand, material, and fit you need. Contact lenses can be quite an investment and are often non-returnable or exchangeable, so you will want to be as sure as you can possibly be before purchasing that you can wear them. If you can't buy your contacts directly through your eye care professional's office, there are some sites online where you can buy lenses in gothic styles:
- Gothic Lens is a wonderland for those looking for gothic lenses (hence the name). Choose from styles like Black Wolf, White Out, Black Out, Lestat, Dark Elf, Banshee, Temptress, and Manson. Prices will vary by design, but make sure you're purchasing a pair (check the drop down box) and not just a single lens when you order. They are available in prescription strengths.
- Vamp Fangs: Vamp Fangs also has a large assortment of gothic style contact lenses. You can choose from categories like Immortal FX Lenses, Theatrical FX Lenses, Hand Painted FX Lenses, and Hand Painted Sclera Lenses. Some styles are available in prescriptions; others are not. Within these categories, find styles like Golden Twilight FX Contact Lenses, White Out and Black Out lenses, Black Wolf, Vampire Princess, and many, many more. For hand painted lenses, expect to pay a great deal more per lens. However if there is something specific you have in mind, you can be almost sure to find it.
- Coco Contacts has styles like Wild Sith Lord AKA Wolf Eyes, Wild Vampire White, Wild Vampire Black, Wild Blood Red, and more. Expect to pay about $39.99 for a box with two lenses.
Wearing Gothic Lenses
If you're interested in wearing a gothic contact lens, there's something for almost every price point, from $39.99 for a set to the more expensive custom painted lenses that can cost more than $100.00 per pair. With so many designs and "goth" styles out there, there's something to fit your costume or your life.
When you purchase gothic lenses, be sure to find out how long they are intended to be worn. Some lenses are not recommended for wear for more than a couple hours per day. You will also need to know when to dispose of them—after a month of daily use, after a year, and so forth. It will depend on the lenses.
As always, be sure to check with your eye care professional if you experience any discomfort after lens wear. Always handle your lenses carefully, with clean hands. Soak them overnight in a solution designed for your lens type.
