Gothic Contact Lenses
From LoveToKnow Sunglasses
Gothic contact lenses are designed to give your eyes an unnatural, sometimes scary or creepy appearance. Cat eye lenses are common, as are black, red, or white lenses designed to make you look like a vampire. You may also see devil contacts, reptilian styles, spider webs, gremlins, and more.
Gothic, theatrical, and other special effects lenses are typically soft lenses that are no different in feel or function than regular prescription lenses, though you may not easily be able to get your hands on all types of lenses in all prescriptions. You can also get non-prescription lenses in gothic designs if you don't need vision correction. If you're inexperienced with the insertion and removal of this type, be sure to check with an eye care specialist to make sure the fit is correct and that you know how to put them in and take them out.
About Gothic Contact Lenses
Why invest in—and wear—gothic contact lenses, anyway?
- For those who aren't part of the gothic crowd but like the idea of amping up a costume, they're the perfect finishing touch.
- Gothic contacts can be a great way to make a personal statement or accent your overall look.
- Going to a club and want to stand out? While "crazy" contacts are more popular than they used to be, they’re still not exactly commonplace. Make those who meet you at the club remember exactly who you are.
- They can give you the appearnce you want for fun and creative photo shoots.
- You can have them custom made so they look however you'd like.
The common designs of gothic lenses:
- Cat eyes (these are available in various colors and look similar to reptile contact lenses)
- Devil eyes
- Flames
- Black-out lenses
- White-out lenses
- Red irises
Please note that you can get contact lenses that cover the irises of your eyes or those that cover the whites of your eyes, as well. For everyday wear, you may want to consider those that simply fit like regular lenses. For extra drama, sclera lenses will effortlessly do the trick.
Where to Buy or Get Inspired
You can get your contact lenses online.
- Bi Cheap: You won't be able to purchase your contact lenses from this site, but the variety of lens designs shown here is too good not to mention. You can get inspired by the designs and go on a search for your own similar pre-made designs or find someone who can custom paint a similar design for you.
- Vamp Fangs is one site where you can purchase custom made lenses. You can shop their selection of immortal lenses, theatrical FX lenses, hand painted FX lenses, and hand painted sclera lenses (these cover the whites of the eyes, too). Some styles are available in prescription strength.
- Goth Contact Lenses: Here, you'll find several goth lens styles as well as a question and answer section where contact lens wearers can share their concerns and experiences.
Tips for Buying and Wearing
Before you purchase your gothic contact lenses, be sure to find out how long they are designed to last. They are not designed to last forever, so if you're contemplating spending a lot of money on a pair of custom painted lenses, it's best to know ahead of time how many times you will be able to wear them before you toss them.
Again, consult with an eye care professional about wearing the lenses. Make sure you're sure of how to handle and maintain the lenses, as well. In most cases, you will need your eye care professional's approval to order your prescription gothic lenses. In fact, if you're not asked for a copy of your prescription, don't purchase from that seller at all; the FDA requires that prescriptions be presented for all contact lens sales.
Don't share your lenses with anyone else, even if there is no prescription involved.
Custom lenses may take several weeks to complete, so plan ahead for your Halloween costume or your clubbing event.
