Oliver Peoples Eyeglass Frames
From LoveToKnow Sunglasses
Oliver Peoples eyeglass frames consist of both sunglasses and frames for all day, every day. They have been around for twenty years and started in West Hollywood, a pairing that promises a combination of experienced craftsmanship and impeccable style.
About Oliver Peoples Eyewear
Oliver Peoples eyewear started out in 1986 in a West Hollywood retail optical shop that had its own twist on frames. What they sold there was a selection of never worn American eyewear from the 1940's to the 1960's. Thanks to magazine and catalog coverage throughout the 1980's, these unique vintage styles catapulted to a position front and center in fashion.
Up until 2000, the emphasis was on eyeglass frames, but the attention shifted that year to more prominently feature sunglasses. It was then that Oliver Peoples sunglasses became featured as a major brand in the luxury sunglass market, displayed in top department stores like Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys New York, and Saks 5th Avenue.
Only after the sunglasses explosion in 2000 did Oliver Peoples open new stores—four more: Madison Avenue in New York City, SoHo, Tokyo, and Costa Mesa.
Buying Oliver Peoples Eyeglass Frames
Oliver Peoples eyeglass frames aren't widely available. Visit the Oliver Peoples page to find boutiques in your area or search by zip code. If you're out of luck and don't live near one of the elite shopping areas where they're sold, you can still order sunglasses online at the Oliver Peoples shop. Expect to pay between $300.00 and $425.00 for a pair of sunglasses. Optical frames will have to be purchased at a boutique due to the fitting concerns. The prescription has to be lined up correctly to fit the wearer's proportions.
You may also find the eyewear on Amazon.com.
The Eyewear Options
The eyewear in this line hasn't gone far from its roots. After all, you can't go wrong with vintage styles.
Optical
- Tycoon: These bold cat eye frames come in black or tortoise. The lenses are deeper than many other cat eye styles, so they may be good for those who need bifocals.
- Advocate: These are completely different from the Tycoons. Where the Tycoons are very bold, the Advocate is not. It's a semi-rimless style that will stand out just enough without screaming, "Glasses!"
- Riley: These are large, round, plastic, and available in six different colors.

Sunglasses
Remember, these can be purchased online so you don't have to worry about hunting down a boutique if you don't want to. Some of the styles include:
- Benedict: These are smooth aviators available in gold with chrome amber, gold with green gradient polar, and silver with chrome sapphire. You'll pay $400.00 for these luxury sunglasses and in return you'll get high-quality metal, silicone nose pads and temples (for comfort), and your choice of photochromic, polarized, or mineral glass lenses.
- Candice: Like big sunglasses? Here's your chance at bliss. These very large sunglasses are available in black with grey gradient, cobalt with grey gradient, dark tortoise black with grey gradient, and olive tortoise pink with olive gradient. This particular pair goes for $325.00.
- Ilsa: These are similar in size to the Candice but with a little extra metal detail and two-tone coloring. You can get these for $375.00 in brownstone horn with spice brown, black with grey gradient, or sycamore/oyster pearl with amber bronze.
- Robert Evans: If there's a sunglass out there that says "manly," this is it. The lines are strong, angular, and the bridge is flat. You can get your pick of polychromic, polarized, or mineral glass lenses. The cost is $415.00 and they are available in horn with java polar, noir with platinum polar, olive tortoise with midnight express, and tungsten with chrome sapphire.

A Final Word
Oliver Peoples eyeglass frames have come a long way, riding through time on top models' faces and more, nearly unscathed by the trends, holding true to a vintage feel. To have yours, you'll have to pay a hefty fee and possibly visit a rare boutique that carries the Oliver Peoples line, but if you're into luxury eyewear—optical or sunglasses—this is a line to take notice of.
