Police Sunglasses

From LoveToKnow Sunglasses

Urban. Edgy. Hip. Police sunglasses are designed to appeal to the urban action and adventure set, with their bold, modern lines and high-quality frames and lenses.

About the Manufacturer

Police Sunglasses are made by Italy-based manufacturer DeRigo, Inc. The American distributor of Police sunglasses is Eastern States Eyewear. Founded in 1938, the company has a sixty-year track record of quality and style. Eastern States Eyewear also distributes the following lines of fashion eyewear: Cazal, Diva, Exces, Jaguar, and Thierry Mugler. The Police line was introduced in 1983, and has gained a tremendous following over the past twenty plus years. It was reintroduced to the American market in 2003, and quickly became popular and trendy.

Iconic Spokesmen

Action movie superstar Bruce Willis has been the spokesman for the Police line since 1999. More recently, UK sports star David Beckham has joined Willis in promoting Police eyewear. George Clooney is one other celebrity who has been seen sporting Police's unique sunglasses styles.

Characteristics

  • Police sunglasses are generally unisex in style, with full frame, wrap, and rimless designs available.
  • Both metal and plastic frames are available.
  • Lenses are CR-39, except for mirrored styles, which are polycarbonate.
  • Lenses are distortion-free, optical class 1.
  • All Police sunglasses provide UV-400 protection; most are polarized.
  • A wide range of lens colours is available, along with gradient tints. (Note: the peacock blue lenses, while highly fashionable and attractive, should not be worn for driving, as they make it difficult to distinguish the colours at stoplights.)
  • Genuine Police sunglasses come with a Police-branded hard case, product information leaflet, and one-year manufacturer's warranty.

Excellent UV Protection

All Police sunglasses provide UV-400 protection, but the benefits of this brand go farther. Police has a wide-range of wrap, or full-coverage, styles. Wrap styles cover more of the face and eye area, and virtually eliminate UV exposure by limiting "gap" between face and lenses. Regular sunglasses provide less UV protection because there is quite a bit of space around the lenses where unfiltered light can reach the eyes: at the sides and top, specifically. Wrap lenses, because they extend further along the sides of the face, cover more of the space that traditional styles leave uncovered, providing superior UV protection. And the Police line includes some very cool wrap styles.

Getting Authentic Police Sunglasses

As with any high-end, designer-label product, you want to ensure that you are buying the real thing. To ensure that you don't buy counterfeit Police glasses by mistake, make sure that you are buying from an authorized dealer. Do some online comparison shopping so that you know the general price range of the style that you are considering. And make sure that your sunglasses come with all the accessories: genuine Police sunglasses come with a branded hard case, product information, and a manufacturer's warranty. If any of these things is missing, or if the price is remarkably low, you may be suspicious that you are not getting genuine Police products.
