Ray Ban Sunglasses
From LoveToKnow Sunglasses
If you only buy one pair of sunglasses in your lifetime, Ray-Ban sunglasses are a good choice. Ray-Ban is the one brand that even those who aren't interested in designer sunnies have heard of. Classic, sophisticated and sexy, Ray-Ban is one of the leading brands in the world, and with an ever-expanding range of styles, it’s a brand with something for everyone.
Ray-Ban Sunglasses: A History
Despite their sleek, modern looks, Ray-Ban sunglasses have been around since the 1930s. The anti-glare Aviators launched in 1936, becoming an instant classic. Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses are still popular today, and are one of the brand's top sellers – not bad for a style that celebrates its 70th birthday this year!
In the 1940s, Ray-Ban worked closely with the US Air Force to develop the mirror lens, an anti-glare measure which was tested by pilots. Today, of course, mirrored sunglasses are seen simply as fashion accessories, but the rigorous testing carried out by Ray-Ban is testament to the fact that, as fashionable as they are, these sunglasses are also very practical.
In the decades since the company launched, Ray-Ban has moved with the times, creating bright, colorful frames in the 60s, big shades in the 70s, sporty styles for the 80s and lightweight, modern frames for the 21st century. They're still one of the most memorable brands around, and one of the most fashionable, too.
Ray-Ban Sunglasses Today
A quick glance at the Ray-Ban website is enough to tell you that this is a fashionable and sophisticated brand. There are currently three different collections available:- The Sun Collection
The Sun Collection is the home of Ray-Ban's classic sunglasses. Sorted according to style, you can search by design, material and shape, allowing you to narrow down your search from the hundreds of pairs of sunglasses pictured on the site to only those you're most interested in.
- The Optical Collection
In addition to sunglasses, you can also choose Ray-Ban frames for your prescription eyewear. Again, the website allows you to narrow your search, selecting the style and material you're most interested in.
- The Junior Collection
Because children like to be stylish, too, Ray-Ban's Junior Collection is stocked with shades in smaller sizes that are ideal for kids.
Unfortunately, online shopping is not available at the Ray-Ban website. There is, however, a store locator that allows you to find a local retailer that carries Ray-Ban.
Make Sure You're Getting the Real Thing
Because of the popularity and relatively high price of genuine Ray-Ban sunglasses, you'll also find a number of fakes on the market. For this reason, it's a good idea to always buy your Ray-Ban sunglasses from an authorized retailer. You'll find a list of sellers of authentic Ray-Bans on the Store Locator section of the website, but you can also shop for designer sunglasses with confidence at large department stores such as Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus.
You'll also find numerous pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses on sale at online auction sites such as eBay, but take particular care when buying from these sites. Always check the seller's feedback rating, and ask as many questions as you need to reassure yourself that what you're buying is not a replica or a fake.
When your glasses arrive, look carefully at the logo, workmanship and packing – these are all good indicators of whether your sunglasses are real or fake.
When shopping online for Designer Sunglasses, make sure you visit HiSunglasses.com for authentic designer Ray Ban Sunglasses, they offer the latest styles at affordable prices.
Ray-Bans on the Bigscreen
As you'd expect with such a legendary sunglass brand, Ray-Bans have attracted some famous fans throughout their distinguished history. Perhaps the most famous Ray-Ban wearers are the Blues Brothers, who wore Ray-Bans throughout the film, Miami Vice's Don Johnson, Tom Cruise's character in Top Gun and, of course, the Reservoir Dogs, who are all pictured in Ray-Bans on posters for the film and in the famous opening sequence.

Axeman, not all of Ray-Bans' lenses are plastic, but they do have some styles with plastic lenses. If you visit the Rayban website and do an advanced search, you will see that CR39 is a lens option under Lens Technology. Those are the ones with plastic lenses.
