Russian Night Vision Goggles

From LoveToKnow Sunglasses

Russian night vision goggles are expensive but effective. Their abilities, of course, increase with price, up to a point where you could read maps in the absolute darkness if necessary (with a pair that costs over $2000.00).

About Russian Night Vision Goggles

These night vision goggles are arguably some of the most advanced out there. Though someone who simply dabbles in night vision activities would probably be better served opting for a less expensive pair, these are perfect for serious hunters, those who scout terrain and read maps during the night, and anyone who desperately needs to be able to see very well with just the light of the moon—or no light at all.

The use of a goggle over other night vision devices allows your hands to be free and your body to keep moving. You don't have to stop and look around to focus; the goggles simply offer you the option to walk around as if it's daylight.

Generation 1 Versus Generation 2

If you're searching for Russian night vision goggles, you will probably see each pair listed as either Generation 1 or Generation 2. You may sometimes see Generation 3 or Generation 4, as well.

Each generation is a level of night vision, each one defined by the United States military. In some cases still, you may see a number with a plus sign behind it. This means that it's an improvement upon the last model, but not different enough to warrant a new number. For example, a 1+ will not be as advanced as a 2. Generation 1 is the least expensive, with prices going up from there.

Generation 1: The price is the upside here. These may distort images and not give you the clarity you're hoping for in low light situations.

Generation 2: You get a slightly brighter image for a much higher price. You also get a longer battery life.

Generation 3: These, of course, offer even clearer pictures. They're also very pricey, meant for serious night vision use (police, researchers, and so forth), and are very difficult to get your hands on.

Generation 4: This isn't a level that is actually acknowledged by the military, though you may see it listed as part of a product description while you search for your goggles.

You will normally not see more than a 1x magnification on night vision goggles in general. If you need more magnification, you can opt for binoculars or monoculars which sometimes offer more magnification.

Where to Buy Them

RuGift

RuGift has several different designs of Russian night vision goggles, plus other night vision equipment. As is to be expected, the prices aren't low, but you can pay by credit card or PayPal. Here are a few styles they have to choose from:

  • Yukon Viking 1x24 Night Vision Goggle Kit: This one includes goggles and a head gear kit so when you're using it, your hands get to remain free. The kit is $629.00. The goggles are fairly light at 0.8 kilograms and have infrared illumination (IRI).
  • Night Vision D-2MV Goggles with Built-In IRI: These cost a bit more, at $779.00. They also come with a head mask and have an infrared illuminator. These weigh .49 kilograms and use a 3V power supply.
  • Night Vision Goggles Bars On-1 1x22: Less expensive at $575.00, these goggles still allow you to keep your hands free while you use them. They operate for 12 hours off of a single 3V battery. They weigh 0.6 kilograms.
  • Night Vision Goggles ONB-9 Combat: This is what $2888.00 will buy you in the realm of night vision goggles. So what makes these so much better than the already expensive pairs that are roughly $600.00? They're so effective, you can even read in full darkness with them on. You can easily observe the terrain with them on, even in very dim moonlight or without any source of light at all. They run off of two AAA batteries and they weigh .45 kilograms. They can work with or without the infrared illuminator switched on, and work 15 to 30 hours respectively on the necessary batteries.
