Tell me about your history with sunglasses. How did Sunglass Warehouse get started?

My husband Randy and I purchased SunglassWarehouse.com from a gentleman in Florida in January 2006. At that time we redesigned the website to make shopping easier for our customers and expanded on the existing inventory. Since that time, we have continued to add customer requests like fit-over sunglasses, reading sunglasses, goggles and children’s sunglasses. We have also worked hard to add features that benefit our customers, like product reviews and 360 degree image videos of our best selling sunglasses.

Your site advertises that prices start at $7.99. What styles of sunglasses can men and women get for that price?

Most of the sunglasses listed in our Sale category are items that have been discontinued. They may be hot sellers from last season, or classic styles that our supplier has decided to stop manufacturing. We also always have a few styles on sale that are current and popular, but for which we may have too much stock.

Do all of your sunglasses have 100 percent UV protection, no matter what the price?

All of our sunglasses include UV 400 protection. UV 400 protection blocks all ultra violet rays up to 400 nm, including UVA, UVB and UVC rays.

What is your most popular category overall (celebrity, sport, polarized, etc)?

Aviator Sunglasses has been our most popular category for 2008. Aviator sunglasses seem like a trend that has been around for a while, but they are really a timeless style that has been around for over 50 years and continue to appeal to men and women, young and old, trend setters and traditionalists.

What are some of the trends you see in sunglass sales, based on the economy, time of year, celebrity fashions, etc?

Surprisingly enough, sunglasses are hot all year long--but we definitely sell more sunglasses in the spring and summer seasons. We see a boost in trendy fashions during the spring break and holiday seasons, while traditional polarized sunglasses are steady all year. Celebrity inspired sunglasses are always a hit and 2008 was crazy for shutter shades, millionaire inspired looks and the classic wayfarer in funky patterns and colors.

Do you have a particular favorite pair or general style? What is it?

Of course! I have several pairs of sunglasses that I wear consistently, but my favorite pair right now is style #15036. They are the perfect size for me, the lenses are not too dark or too light and they are super comfortable.

Tell me more about the shop as a whole. What sorts of special deals do you offer (free shipping, etc)?

Sunglass Warehouse offers free shipping on all orders over $25, which is typically met with two pairs of sunglasses or one pair of sunglasses and one sunglasses case. We also have an ongoing Sale section that includes discontinued styles or overstock. Customers that sign up for our newsletter are notified about private monthly sales and contests, as well as information on new arrivals and customer favorites.

Tell me more about Sunglass Warehouse's monthly contest.

Each month, Sunglass Warehouse offers a $25 gift certificate to one of our customers. It is just our way of saying thanks to our loyal customers! The best thing about the contest is that you only have to sign up one time and you are automatically entered each month. We are also in the process of putting the finishing touches on a vacation giveaway for the spring break season.
