Texas Contact Lenses

From LoveToKnow Sunglasses

In Texas, contact lenses are not hard to find. You'll be able to find your eyes' perfect match in material, color if you prefer it, and power. If you haven't tried contact lenses in a long time because you didn't enjoy wearing them before, feel free to talk to an eye care provider in your area. He or she will likely be able to set you up with a trial set or two to see if the advances in contact lens technology have made a difference for your eyes.

What You Need

If you already know which contact lenses work well for you, you'll still need an updated prescription—-one that isn't over a year old—-in order to purchase more. That goes for contact lens purchases anywhere, to include other states and online retailers.

If you're interested in trying a new kind of contact lenses, you will again need to speak with your eye care specialist. Materials and fit all come into play when you're searching for the lenses that best suit your eyes.

Quick Facts about Lenses in Texas

According to the Department of State Health Services in Texas:

  • Contact lens prescriptions must be given to the patient if they ask for one, partially so they can shop at other contact lens sales locations
  • Prescriptions are valid for a year unless there is a health concern that would require a lens check before the year is over
  • A health care provider can refuse to write a contact lens prescription if there is a health concern related to a patient wearing contact lenses at all, they are requesting a prescription more than one year after their last eye exam, or they owe the office money
  • Authorization of an extension of the prescription for one or two months can happen in the case of an emergency, such as times when a patient runs out of lenses but cannot be scheduled for an eye exam in the very near future

Questions to Ask

Aside from, "How much do they cost?" there are other questions to ask when buying Texas contact lenses or lenses in any other state. Ask what they are made from; this is especially important if you suffer from dry eyes. Your eye care provider needs to know if you have chronically dry eyes so that they can choose lenses for you that will not lose moisture rapidly, leaving you with uncomfortable eyes, imperfect vision, and an empty wallet.

Ask how long your lenses of choice are intended to be worn. Some lenses are thrown out daily, giving you the opportunity to start with a fresh pair every morning. Others can be worn up to a month. Still others, such as rigid gas permeable lenses, can be worn for a year.
