Vampire Contact Lenses Horror

From LoveToKnow Sunglasses

Vampire contact lenses, horror lenses, and other types of creepy lenses are perfect for surprising unsuspecting friends and strangers as part of a costume, clubwear, or your everyday clothing.

About Vampire Lenses

There are a few kinds of lenses that may be considered to be vampire-like, especially since the surge of vampire literature and television shows with their different takes on what vampires really look like. You may find vampire contact lenses under headings like goth, scary, creepy, theatrical, or crazy contact lenses; they aren't always labeled specifically as vampire lenses. If you go with a traditional vampire-inspired lens, the color will only cover your iris and leave the pupil clear. Your eyesight will not be changed by wearing the lenses unless, of course, you need prescription lenses to correct your vision. They should not obscure your vision or cause a difference in the colors that you see.

Classic vampire contact lenses tend to be red. However, you could choose to wear amber or honey-colored lenses or even black lenses in the style of the Twilight vampires. Branching out into the honey and amber colors will allow an even easier purchase of contact lenses because those are available in regular soft contact lens brands such as Expressions. You may even be able to try on a pair of those before leaving your eye exam.

Feasible vampire lenses you could wear for a vampire look:

  • Custom made, limited only by your imagination or pre-made non-traditional styles. This will come in handy if you are doing a photo shoot or film based on vampires you designed with a special type of eyes. Perhaps your vampires mesmerize their victims; you could choose lenses with a swirling pattern.
  • Red
  • Honey/amber
  • Black
  • White out
  • Bright yellow-green like Louis' in Interview with a Vampire
  • Black sclera lenses with red irises
  • Vibrant blue like Selene's in Underworld or Lestat's in Interview with a Vampire
  • Some glow-in-the-dark styles

While some people immediately think of red lenses when they think of vampires, there is a wide category of lenses that would work brilliantly. There are some, like the amber and light blue styles, that you may be able to get away with for everday wear, too.

Shop for Yours

You can talk to your optometrist about trying contact lenses. If you prefer to shop online, have a current prescription, and are comfortable wearing contact lenses, there are several different kinds of vampire contact lenses, horror lenses, and more available online. You can even get exactly what you want by having a pair custom made, though that route can be pricey. Try:

Please keep in mind that having contact lenses custom made could be an expensive and time-consuming process. Plan ahead if you have an extravagant pair of lenses planned out for your costume or creative endeavor; having them hand-painted could take up to two months.

Make sure that you have a current prescription; it will be required to purchase contact lenses from a reputable seller as mandated by the FDA. This is still in effect even if you do not require vision correction.

A Word of Caution

If you do decide to purchase vampire contact lenses, horror may await you in a different way than you intended if you don't handle them with care. Never share your lenses with anyone else. Always wash your hands before removing them and before putting them into your eyes. Don't wear them for extended periods of time and always soak them in a solution meant for the type of lenses you buy. Usually, the lenses will be like regular soft lenses and an all-purpose solution designed for soft contacts will suffice. Always contact your eye care specialist if you have any questions or eye irritation.
