LoveToKnow Sunglasses had the opportunity to speak with Jonny Vavas, designer of Vavas Diamond Eyewear, about his line of custom diamond sunglasses. LTK: Tell us about Vavas Diamond Eyewear.

JV: Vavas Diamond Eyewear are hand created by Jonny Vavas and very exclusive. Sixty pairs are created per month and the line is always fresh and elegant. All of the diamonds are laid by hand and the designs are by hand – always!

LTK: How and when did your company get started?

JV: I started the diamond company SLG Diamonds Inc in 2007 and our original work was buying rough diamonds from Africa and Brazil. I am a trained rough diamond grader.

LTK: Where did you get the inspiration for your designs?

JV: My designs come from meditation, divinity and nature. I receive divine inspiration on each pair and the designs are created never ahead of time but in the spiritual moment of the Vavas creation.

LTK: What other materials are used in the construction of the sunglasses (lens type, frame material, special coatings, etc)?

JV: Vavas lenses are polycarbonate, The frame materials are heavy duty plastics and metal. All lenses are scratch and impact resistant and all designs are by hand.

LTK: Your designs only use conflict-free diamonds, correct?

JV: All diamond sources for SLG Diamonds are Kimberley Certified sites (Non-Conflict).

LTK: Do you have a favorite pair? If so, why does it stand out to you?

JV: Honestly, I love every pair that I create from the bottom of my heart. I really don’t have a favorite and to choose now would be so premature because I know what designs are coming.

LTK: Does there seem to be a favorite style among your customers?

JV: They really love the shield style Vavaisso line. It shows the diamonds a lot clearer on the lens and the size allows for more carats to be set by myself.

LTK: I hear that your eyewear is very popular with celebrities. Can you tell us some of the celebrities who wear your line?

JV: Verdine White of Earth, Wind & Fire, Singer Natalie Cole, Fashion designer Kevan Hall, Mr P Funk - George Clinton.

JV: They are only available directly from JonnyVavas.com at this time.

LTK: With only 60 pairs created per month, do you have any tips for customers who want to score a pair before they sell out?

JV: We have a Twitter campaign that allows one Jonny Vavas follower on twitter to receive a free pair of Vavas per month in our twitter give away. Follow me on Twitter and you can win a pair.

LTK: Is there anything else you'd like to share about the line?

JV: We are launching a new series of Vavas right now called the Exoticos. They are the combination of flare and elegance that is unheralded in the eyewear world. The prices start at $5,000 and go upward to $20,000.00. I have another line coming in November that will have one pair a month created that will cost $100,000.00 per pair. Stay tuned!
