Vuarnet Sunglasses

From LoveToKnow Sunglasses

Vuarnet sunglasses have been around since the 1960s and have been making their mark on the industry since. These sport sunglasses have paved the way for some of today’s most trusted and well-loved sunglasses designers. From ski apparel and eyewear to groundbreaking new innovations in eyewear for sailing and other sports, this is a trendsetting brand to keep your eye on in coming years.

Vuarnet Sunglasses

Vuarnet started making glasses at a time when there were really no other makers of extreme sporting glasses available. With polarized lenses, tough frames and overall superior durability, Vuarnet is truly the grandfather designer of tough, long-lasting sunglasses equipped to handle what an athlete can throw at them.

The Early Days

Jean Vuarnet was already a highly renowned alpine skier when he established the Vuarnet company. As the winner of Olympic gold in 1960 and an avid professional athlete, Jean and fellow entrepreneur Roger Pouilloux understood that the world of ski and sporting equipment was lacking in goggles and other eyewear. They created the first lenses in 1961, but the brand did not become popular until about 1975; it took another five or so years for Vuarnet to become a hit in the United States and Canada.

What’s In a Name

Since its inception in the early 1960s, the Vuarnet name has been synonymous with quality, but that is not the only name associated with and responsible for the quality of this brand. Lensmaker Joseph Hatchiguian is the man behind the very first Vuarnet lens ever engineered. Since the creation of the signature lens of this eyewear maker, Hatchiguian has gone on to become the CEO of Sporoptic Pouilloux.

The Vuarnet Difference

Anti-reflective lenses and nylon frames are the hallmarks of Vuarnet. Many other makers of athletic sunglasses and ski goggles have followed suit to make these two aspects the mainstay of their eyewear.

Today’s Catalog

Vuarnet sunglasses have been able to grow and change with the times and the styles that are popular today. In the most recent catalog, the designs coming out this year are as competitive as ever. Once thought of as a throwback style and often considered a symbol of all that was trendy in the 1980s, Vuarnet now embodies a style that offers buyers a look that is every bit as much current as any other designer in the industry. Some of today’s most popular styles can be found in on of the three following categories:

  • Sea – With lenses made just for the water, superior protection against the elements of water and sun are the core traits of this collection
  • Urban and Town – the newest in the Vuarnet family, these are designed for day to day living and available in both women's and men's sunglasses.
  • Mountain – the classic Vuarnet lenses with all the polarizing protection you will need when hitting the slopes on skis or snowboard

The sunglasses in these categories are all made with mineral glass lenses for superior visibility and longevity.

Other Vuarnet Products

Vuarnet does a lot more than just eyewear. While sunglasses and optical glasses frames are obviously their mainstay, Vuarnet also offers:

  • Ski apparel for men, women and children
  • Casual wear
  • Baby ski wear
  • Watches
  • Footwear
  • Helmets and body protection
  • Perfume and cologne
  • Yachting gear and clothing
  • Writing instruments
  • Luggage
  • Skin Care Products
  • Women’s jewelry

The brand started to branch out in 1992 and entered the worlds of both sailing and tennis. You can now find eyewear with both of these sports in mind as well as other apparel, including a broad selection of sailing watches and jackets. Vuarnet clothing and products all share a theme of simplicity, clean lines and ease of use and wear. As with all of their eyewear, everything that Vuarnet offers in the way of apparel is priced reasonably below other designer names in the industry.
